Exorcism Crafting

Exorcism Crafting allows you to create items, influencing the affixes that roll on that item by burying corpses.

Each buried corpse contributes its crafting modifier towards a combined pool of every crafting modifier. Stacking up these corpse modifiers can lead to the creation of incredibly powerful rare items… if done correctly!

This is a Pre-Launch Guide, as the Necropolis Challenge League is not yet live. This guide is based on publicly available information about Necropolis through reveals, teasers, Q&A, developer comments, etc, and will continue to be updated up through – and after – league launch. As such, information in this guide may be inaccurate, or simply changed by GGG prior to launch.

The Graveyard

Necropolis Graveyard

Exorcism crafting is performed in the Graveyard, with corpses being buried in specific graves. The Graveyard has a set layout of Graves, and since many modifiers care about or affect other nearby corpses, puzzling out which corpses you want to bury where will be a massive part of Exorcism crafting.

While the exact number of Graves available is currently unknown, it has been stated that it’s “currently around 80-100 graves”.

The Tome of Arimor

The Tome of Arimor

When it’s time to finally craft your item, you’ll do so by opening up The Tome of Arimor. This tome will show you the combined total of all the modifiers from buried corpses that will be applied to the item you’re crafting. It will also show the item level of the created item, as well as allow you to select what category of item you wish to create.

Modifier Tier Rating

Modifier Tier Rating Corpse Crafting Modifiers

A new type of crafting modifier you can find on corpses is “Modifier Tier Rating”. This new modifier influences the tiers of categories of affixes that can roll on an item.

The way this works is that as you get modifier tier rating, the lowest tiers possible for a given affix get cut off, and the weighting of the remaining tiers is slightly boosted.

The examples given by GGG were that 50 modifier tier rating cuts off the bottom 1/3 of tiers, 100 tier rating cuts of the bottom 1/2, and 200 tier rating cuts off the bottom 2/3.

While cutting off tiers of affixes like this does mean that if you hit that affix you’ll get a higher tier… it actually doesn’t do a whole lot to ensure you’ll get that affix in the first place. As a result, you’re going to want to combine modifier tier rating with other modifiers that increase your chance of rolling that category of affix.

Another possible use of modifier tier rating is using it on affix types that you do not want, in order to reduce the chance of getting that affix on your item.

Item Bases

Item Base Corpse Crafting Modifiers

While you can select the category of item to create, you don’t get to select the specific item base for the item you’re creating. The categories are quite general – things like equipment slot or weapon type.

This means that you’ll have to rely on corpse modifiers to try and get higher tier item bases, or your preference of Armour/Evasion/ES.

There are also corpse modifiers that guarantee specific bases. These appear to be item bases that aren’t in the general drop pool – like Stygian Vises, or Experimented bases.

Meta Mods

Corpse Meta Crafting Modifiers

Exorcism crafting has its own type of “meta mods”, which either affect adjacent corpses, care about monster types you’ve buried, care about the name of buried monsters, or affect the overall craft.

These Meta mods are incredibly powerful, but will require careful planning of where you’re going to bury each type of corpse, in order to make the most of them.

Fractured Modifiers

One corpse crafting modifier grants a % chance for a modifier on the crafted item to be fractured. This can be stacked over 100% – doing so will guarantee that some modifiers are fractured, with the remaining % giving you a chance of additional fractures.

For example, if you had 250% chance to fracture a modifier, the resulting item would have two fractured modifiers, and a 50% chance of having a third fractured modifier.

There is no limit to the number of modifiers that can be fractured this way – you could even make a 6-mod fractured item! (Not that you would ever want to).

Crafting Unique Items

The Tome of Arimor Unique Item Crafting

Necropolis has several Unique items that can be crafted via Exorcism crafting. Creating these items requires a full set of corpses haunted by named characters – forming a complete lineage.

At least some of these Unique items have variants with different modifiers that can roll on them – and these modifiers are affected by other corpses you bury while Exorcism crafting.
