Crucible League Mechanic Guide
Introduction
Primeval Remnants (and the higher-tier Primordial Remnants) are map-like items, creating a zone of narrow passageways, filled with Crucible enemies, and ending with a Forge of the Titans.
You’ll primarily be interested in completing a Remnant for the Forge at the end – allowing you to combine Crucible Passive Trees – but the modifiers on Remnants can add additional rewards, giving you a number of reasons to want to complete these maps!
Obtaining Remnants
Remnants can be obtained from opening Geodes, which have a chance to drop off of Crucible enemies. The odds of obtaining a Geode is significantly higher in high-tier red maps – they’re otherwise extremely rare! There are also vendor passives that can grant Geodes.
Geodes come in two varieties – Igneous Geodes, which contain Primeval Remnants, and the much rarer Crystalline Geodes, which contain Primordial Remnants.
The current belief is that Crystalline Geodes only drop off of Unique Crucible enemies – making them all-but-unobtainable if you aren’t juicing your Crucible Forge encounters to incredibly high levels!
Cheesing Remnants
The difficulty of Remnants can be quite high, and not every build can handle them – especially early in progression. However, if you find yourself in need of merging Crucible Passives, there’s thankfully a way to do so, even if you can’t handle clearing the map:
Simply… run past everything!
Enemies in Remnants spawn after a lengthy animation – giving you plenty of time to run past them before they’ve finished spawning! The Forge itself is in an area at the end where no monsters spawn – outside the range of the closest monsters. You can just run straight to the Forge, combine your weapons without having to kill a single monster, and portal out!
Remnant Modifiers
Remnants have two types of modifiers. The first type is Reward Modifiers, that add additional rewards to the Remnant. The second type is Difficulty Modifiers – which increase the difficulty of the Remnant, similar Map modifiers, except significantly more dangerous.
Remnants are Unmodifiable, always Rare, and will have 3-4 of each of these types of modifiers.
Notable Reward Modifiers
Forged Items are Corrupted with an Implicit
This modifier is notable in that it can completely brick your item, if you aren’t paying attention. Always check your Remnants for this modifier, because if you’re just trying to set up a crafting base, having the item become corrupted is the absolute LAST thing you want!
Forged Items are fully Linked
This modifier allows you to 6-link a weapon! If you have a two-handed weapon with a skill tree you’re okay with overwriting, buying a Remnant with this modifier may end up being the cheapest way to 6-link it.
Rare and Unique Monsters have 25% chance to drop a Magmatic Ore
This modifier can result in large quantities of Magmatic Ore, if you’re fully clearing the map. Even if you have no need of it yourself, you can bulk sell the Magmatic Ore, for quite a payday!
Forged Items have 30% Quality
Setting a weapon’s quality to 30% is otherwise only available through spamming Perfect Fossils on an item before crafting it, or a T4 Hillock from Betrayal. Simply running a Remnant is a lot easier – and probably cheaper – than either of these options!
Contains a Furnace that adds a Crucible Passive Skill Tree to an (Uncorrupted) Unique Item
This modifier is the only way to add a Crucible Passive Skill Tree to a Unique item that doesn’t have one. Given that some Unique items can have powerful synergies, this is crucial for builds that use Unique weapons!
The version that appears on Primordial remnants allows you to add a Passive Tree to corrupted items – this can be incredibly valuable for getting extra power onto Uniques that have already been double-corrupted into having strong corruption implicits!
Even if you don’t need this modifier yourself, it’s one to look out for – it’s definitely worth selling!
